naima overton, director
Memphis native, Naima Overton, is a Black, queer, filmmaker and artist. She spent a little over 2 years directing and producing her first short-form documentary which examines Black queer culture and community in Memphis.
The journey began during Black History Month as she was on a quest to learn more about her own familial ancestry. The information she uncovered began to raise questions regarding the black, queer experiences of those who came before her. After realizing how poorly their lives had been documented, she decided to begin documenting the lives of the Black and queer individuals in her hometown from ages 21 to 75.
